Why did you decide to study in Japan?
I am from Zhengzhou, Henan Province, China. When I first traveled to Japan, I was fascinated by the Japanese culture, manners, and environment. I decided to go to a Japanese university because the results of my university entrance examinations in China were not favorable.
How is your college life now?
I'm a freshman now, and my main focus is still getting used to college life. I am working hard on my daily classes and homework.
What attracts you to Meiji University?
Meiji University is a prestigious university with an excellent learning environment in Japan, although its name is not so well known in China yet. Here, I can do research of my choice, and there are many options for university club activities, so I am enjoying a fulfilling university life.
What are some of the things you have to adapt to in your university life, especially as an international student?
Human relations are especially important. Unlike language schools, universities are not just for international students, but also for Japanese students of the same generation, so I think it is important to make Japanese friends at university. I believe that the relationships you build will have a positive effect on solidifying the foundation of your university life.
How did you feel about your own college entrance exam?
I struggled during the year of preparation for the examination. I was not very good at Japanese at the time, so I practiced listening and reading comprehension in Japanese every day, and when I had time, I listened to NHK news to improve my listening comprehension. After six months, my Japanese improved considerably.
What are your plans for the future?
In China, academic background up to graduate school tends to be more important. Since I have come all the way to Japan to study, I would like to continue on to graduate school. After that, I would like to find a job in Japan and experience working in Japan.
