Skiing

February is a great time to ski in Japan. Nagano has several popular ski resorts and especially Hakuba is world-famous for its powder snow. Skiers say "You must try it first to understand how special it is". Ski lessons are available so you can participate no matter your level.

Meet up with Japanese local students

Enjoy a chance to meet with local high school students to learn about life in Nagano, what is popular in Japan and what Japanese schools are really like. Of course, you will also get to practice your Japanese language skills!

SETSUBUN Experience (Traditional bean-throwing event)

Setsubun means "parting of the seasons" and is a traditional event to ward off illnesses, disasters and other bad things that tend to occur at the turn of the seasons. It is said that if you throw beans at the 'ogres' and eat as many beans as your age, you will be safe and healthy. Let's throw beans at the demons for the happiness of you and those around you!

Karate Experience

Karate instructors teach you kata and kumite. Recommended for people who enjoy karate in their home country and would like to experience authentic karate in Japan. Experiencing karate in the country where it originated will be a valuable experience. It will definitely be more than just a "fun" experience.

Zenkoji Temple sightseeing

Zenkoji Temple boasts a history of around 1,400 years and has attracted many worshippers since ancient times as a 'once in a lifetime' place to visit. The temple enshrines Japan's oldest Buddhist statues and is known as one of the most powerful spots for good luck. Don't miss the main hall designated a national treasure!

Visiting Azumino & Matsumoto

Matsumoto Castle has been designated a national treasure and attracts many visitors with the beauty of its keep buildings and the exhibits inside the castle. You will be greeted by beautiful scenery that is sure to be a hit on social media.

Visiting Ueda Castle Town

Ueda Castle is one of the 100 best castles in Japan and a symbol of the city. Walk through the castle town that flourished around Ueda Castle. The townscape, where the history and culture built up by the Japanese people still live on, is perfect for a stroll. There are plenty of places to stop off, from long-established local gourmet restaurants to fashionable cafés.

YUKATA-dressing Experience +Traditional Japanese Garden

Let's wear a kimono and take part in a traditional tea ceremony. Through the windows of the tea room, you will enjoy the beautiful Japanese winter scenery. You will have a relaxing time, savouring tea and traditional Japanese sweets while gazing at the Japanese garden. It is truly a peaceful time.

Jigokudani Monkey Park (Snow monkeys)

Why not go and see the world's only monkeys bathing in hot springs? At the Jigokudani Monkey Park, where there is an open-air bath exclusively for monkeys (and monkeys seem to enjoy it!) . This is a great chance to observe wild monkeys so closely!

Hokusai Museum

Katsushika Hokusai was an ukiyo-e artist of the Edo period who influenced people from many different genres of art around the world. He called himself a "painting fanatic" and spent his last years in Nagano. The Hokusai Museum displays a number of valuable prints left by Hokusai and is a must-see for anyone who wants to experience a little bit of Japanese art!

Farewell Party (TAKOYAKI party)

Takoyaki is a local dish consisting of octopus and condiments in a flour dough, cooked into 3-5 cm spheres. Nicknamed 'takopa', an essential part of Japanese home parties where everyone can enjoy making them together. Let's enjoy takopa together!

Sightseeing in Karuizawa + Soba noodle making experience

Karuizawa, known as one of the best resorts in Japan, is a popular tourist destination, where you can enjoy hot springs, shopping and leisure activities throughout the year. Make your own delicious SOBA (buckwheat) noodles there. It will surely be the best last memory of the program.
