In April 2015, Beijing Language and Culture University Tokyo, the first Japanese branch of a Chinese national university, opened in Ikebukuro, Tokyo. Beijing Language and Culture University is the university involved in the development of the HSK (汉语水平考试) Chinese language proficiency test, and is known as an educational institution that provides the highest level of Chinese language education.
The Tokyo school adopts the curriculum and Chinese teaching methods of the Beijing main school, providing the same Chinese education as the Beijing school. In addition, a Japanese minor has been established for international students, providing a unique learning environment where students can study both Chinese and Japanese. Upon graduation, students are granted a qualification equivalent to graduation from a Japanese university.
BLCU uses the direct teaching method of learning in Chinese and small class sizes, so that students are constantly showered with Chinese and can effectively improve their Chinese language skills. Many will go on to obtain HSK Level 6 (the highest level) by the time they graduate.
The official language on campus is Chinese, and all Chinese classes are conducted in Chinese. On the other hand, since Japanese is used in daily life in Japan, we have established a Japanese minor for international students. Since students can learn both Chinese and Japanese, this is an attractive option for those who want to learn two languages well.
Beijing Language and Culture University is an international university called the "Small United Nations", with students from about 10 countries studying at the Tokyo campus as well as the Beijing campus. While you are in school, you can use the system to study abroad at the Beijing campus, where you can work hard with students from all over the world and broaden your horizons while learning the "real" Chinese language.
