Why did you choose to study in Japan?
I became interested in Japanese photography when I was in junior high school and began researching Japanese universities famous for their photography.
When I was in high school, I went to Canada to study, and after talking with a Japanese friend I made at that time about various aspects of Japanese art, my feelings were quickly aroused, and I went to Japan to study immediately after graduating from high school.
What are the differences between Japan and China in terms of art colleges?
The main difference is the admissions system. In China, a statement of purpose and an interview are not required. In Japan, however, the statement of purpose is very important. This is the most difficult part for foreigners.
Why did you choose the school you are applying to? What was the reason for your choice?
I visited various open campuses of art universities and liked the atmosphere of Tokyo Zokei University the best. I also felt that the direction of research in the photography department at Tokyo Zokei University suited me very well.
What was the most difficult part of the art school application process?
I think it is a statement of purpose. Since you will be applying to not only one university, but other universities as well, you will need to prepare a statement of purpose for each university. To do this, it is important to research many materials and make sure that the content of the statement matches the direction of the university to which you wish to apply.
What do you think were the factors that helped you pass the art school exam?
I believe that you must not give up even if you fail, keep the desire to work hard until the end, and then believe in yourself.
Tokyo Zokei University was the last university I applied to and my last hope. It was very stressful, but I keenly realized the importance of believing in one's own abilities and never giving up until the very end.
Please give a message to international students who are aiming to study at art universities.
First of all, you should think yourself properly about the specialty you want to do, find a major you like, and set your goals. If you yourself are not sure which field you want to study, your teachers will be troubled. It is important to think carefully about your goals first.
I also think it is important not to give up even if you fail and to keep trying until the end.
