What do you enjoy about teaching Japanese and what do you think is fun? Do you have any anecdotes?
When I see students who could not speak Japanese very well at first start to enjoy speaking Japanese with me, I am happy to see the results of their studies. Also, students who went on trips with other students during the summer and winter vacations often tell me after the vacations are over, "Here are some souvenirs! Sensei, I wanted to talk to you! I wanted to talk to you!" I am happy to know that they remembered and thought about their teachers during the vacation.
What is important to you when dealing with students?
I try to create an atmosphere where students feel comfortable talking to me with a smile so that they can immediately ask for help or ask questions when they have any problems.
How do you usually teach your classes?
"Speaking Japanese" does not mean just making sentences with correct grammar. It is necessary to understand Japanese culture and customs, and to think about the what you want to express in order to communicate. Therefore, I place importance on conveying Japanese culture, customs, and ways of thinking. I also believe that it is more useful to know a lot of words when speaking, so I try to use a lot of words and expose students to a variety of expressions in my classes.
What do you think is most important for international students when learning Japanese?
As I mentioned above, even if you make sentences according to the grammar, you may get a good score on the test, but in real life? That kind of experience exists. It's important to express yourself by experiencing and learning Japanese culture, customs, and ways of thinking. I would like you to convey all of those things in a way that will be understood correctly.
What is something that ISI Shibuya has that other Japanese language schools do not have?
The ISI Shibuya school is mainly for multinational students who wish to find a job. Students often have various experiences in their home countries, so you will hear many different stories and be inspired to work hard yourself. Everyone is serious and highly ambitious.
What kind of students would you like to see enrolled in the future?
We want students who can never give up on their dreams and hopes, and who can work hard until the end, to enroll in our school. Let's make your dreams come true together!
Finally, do you have a message for international students who are considering enrolling?
First, come to Japan and experience Japan. Then, if you can speak a little Japanese, "your Japan" will be more enjoyable.
Please make sure to study with us and enrich "your Japan"!
