History of ISI

The ISI Group started out as a private school.
We will continue to nurture global human resources who will be responsible for the “future of the world” in the stages of education, language, and international exchange.

1977 ● Opened Shinano Gakuin, a cram school, in Ueda
1979 ● Completed the new three-story Shinano Gakuin building   
1980 ● Founded Shinano Preparatory School (President: Shojiro Ogino)
1981 ● Completed the five-story Shinano Gakuin building   
1982 ● Gained approval for miscellaneous schools from Nagano Pref.
● Changed the school name to Shinano Preparatory School
1985 ● Completed a six-story school building in the vacant lot of the former three-story Shinano Yobiko building   
1987 ● Completed Karuizawa Seminar House, a training facility, in Karuizawa
1992 ● Opened the Japanese language school Nagano Gaigo Academy certified by the Association for the Promotion of Japanese Language Education   
1993 ● Started a new business for studying at Chinese universities
1995 ● Completed a student dormitory Shirakaba Ryo in Ueda
● Opened Tokyo Office to promote the expansion of the overseas education business nationwide
● Business cooperation with Beijing Foreign Studies University(BFSU) and Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU)
1996 ● Opened the ISI Beijing Office as a support base for studying in China   
● Completed the new three-story school building Shinano Yobiko Sakaki Campus   
1997 ● Completed building a student dormitory Dream Pal in Ueda
1998 ● Opened the ISI Shanghai Office as a support base for studying in China
1999 ● Founded ISI Inc. in Tokyo (President: Shojiro Ogino)
● Established the Department of Chinese and English International Studies at Shanghai International Studies University (SISU), BFSU,BLCU and started the Two-Country Study Abroad Program   
2000 ● Established the Department of Chinese and English Int’l Studies in Fudan University
● Established the Internationa Division in Shanghai Foreign Language School
● Reached the milestone of 500 foreign students to study in Chinese universities
2001 ● Cooperated with Peking University Health Science Center and medical students started their overseas study   
2002 ● Opened the English language school ISI Ireland in Dublin, Ireland   
● Opened the Japanese language school ISI Tokyo in Takadanobaba
● Donated the ISI Japan-China Friendship First Choice Elementary School in the Xigaze District of Tibet
● Cooperated with the University of Bridgeport in the U.S. and started the Two-Country Study Abroad Program   
2003 ● Opened the Japanese language school ISI Chukyo in Gifu   
● Educational Corporation ISI Gakuen (President: Shojiro Ogino) was approved by Tokyo Metropolitan Government
● Cooperated with 20 Irish high schools and started the Studying Overseas High School Program
2004 ● Opened the vocational college Tokyo Business and Language College (TBL) in Machida   
● Cooperated with Bridgeport Int’l High School in the U.S. and started the Studying Overseas High School Program
2005 ● Opened the vocational college Nagano Language College (NLC) in Ueda
● Moved ISI Corporate Head Office to Shinjuku Island Tower
2006 ● Founded ISI Global Inc. (President: Shojiro Ogino)
● Opened the Japanese language school ISI Language School (ILS) in Shin-Okubo
● Donated ISI Hope Second Elementary School in Tsingtao, China
● Cooperated with 24 public schools in Vancouver, Canada, and started the Studying Overseas High School Program
● Opened ISI Office in Vancouver, Canada
2007 ● Opened the language school ISI Shanghai Campus at Shanghai Int’l Studies University
● Opened the ISI Shanghai Office in the same facility
● Cooperated with 15 high schools in Auckland, New Zealand, and started the Studying Overseas High School Program
● Held a ceremony for the 30th anniversary of ISI’s foundation
2008 ● Started to manage TECC, Test of Communicative Chinese
● The Advanced Course at the vocational college TBL was approved by Tokyo Metropolitan Government
● The Advanced Course at the vocational college NLC was approved by Nagano Pref.
2009 ● Japanese language school “ISI Language School” increased its capacity to 460 students.
2010 ● Moved the Japanese language school ILS and the ISI Corporate
Head Office to Takadanobaba   
● ISI corporate headquarters moved to the same building.   
2011 ● Held a joint ISI Japanese language school event ISI FESTA 2011   
● Japanese language school “ISI Language School” increased its capacity to 560 students.
● Japanese language school “ISI Chukyo” increased its capacity to 150 students.
2012 ● April 1: the 35th anniversary of ISI’s foundation
● Maasaki Ogino became CEO of ISI Global Inc. and ISI Inc., and Executive Director of Educational Corporation ISI Gakuen
● Reopened the Japanese Language School ISI Tokyo as ISI Language College (ILC) in Nishi-Shinjuku   
2013 ● Started Medical Education Preparatory Course   
● Vocational school “Nagano Language College” increased its capacity by 535 students.
● Beijing Office moved to Beijing Language and Culture University Conference Center.   
2014 ● Moved the vocational college TBL to Minami-Ikebukuro   
● Japanese language school “ISI Language School” increased its capacity to 990 students.
● Opened the annex of the Japanese language school ILS as Shikikan in Takadanobaba   
● Moved the Japanese language school ILC to Ikebukuro Campus in Minami-Ikebukuro
2015 ● Opened the student dormitory Shakujii-Koen Int’l House
● Opened Beijing Language and Culture University, Tokyo College in Minami-Ikebukuro   
● Moved the head office to Minami-Ikebukuro
● Vocational school “Nagano Language College” increased its capacity to 565 students.
● ISI Beijing Office moves tnew location near Peking University Health Science Center   
● Japanese language school “ISI Language School” increased its capacity to 1,346 students.
2016 ● Renamed the vocational college NLC to Nagano Business and Language College (NBL)   
● Opened the student dormitories NBL Int’l House and Toda Int’l House
2017 ● April 1: the 40th anniversary of ISI’s foundation
● Opened the Japanese Language School ISI Language School, Kyoto
● Opened 4 student dormitories in Kyoto
● Moved the Japanese Laguage School ISI Chukyo to Kyoto
2018 ● Scheduled opening of Enmachi International House
● ISI Group Headquarters moved to Sunshine 60 Building at Higashi-Ikebukuro, Toshima-ku, Tokyo.
2019 ● Japanese Language School “ISI Language School New Building” opens in Takadanobaba, Shinjuku-ku   
2021 ● Japanese language school “ISI Career and Language Academy Harajuku School” opened in front of Jingumae, Shibuya-ku   
2023 ●ISI Career and Language Academy, Shibuya school open’s in Shibuya, Tokyo. 

●Opening of the student accommodation “Musashiseki international house”.  

●Opening of the student accommodation “Shimo International House”.      

2024 ●ISI Language School, Osaka open’s in Chuo, Osaka.
