Ikebukuro is known for its lower-priced hotels, busy downtown street, and it has different faces such as an entertainment district around Ikebukuro Nishiguchi (west exit of Ikebukuro Station) area, students area where universities are, and cultural facilities like theaters.
Ikebukuro is a leading shopping and entertainment area in Tokyo. It is very popular for its shopping malls, live music venues, and anime-inspired facilities but you can also find lesser known quiet shrines and excellent dining places!
Sunshine City, located at Ikebukuro Station’s east exit, is a popular complex containing an aquarium, observatory, museum, planetarium, and a shopping center.
It’s a perfect place for shopping but did you know that this building also counts many offices and that it’s in this building that they have ISI group main office?
Konica Minolta Planetarium “Manten” is also located in Sunshine City. It is a very unique planetarium which offers different shows with additional use of scents and music by popular Japanese artists
The Sky Circus Sunshine 60 Observatory on the 60th floor of Sunshine City has just been completely renewed and offers different activities for its visitors. The TOKYO Bullet Flight in the Sunshine 60 building utilizes VR technology to create a virtual tour where you can enjoy a futuristic Tokyo from the sky when you get into the Human Cannon Machine.
Sunshine Aquarium is located on the rooftop of Sunshine City’s World Import Mart Building. The aquarium has “oasis in the sky” as its concept. Here you can watch penguins that look like they’re swimming in the sky, and observe creatures that live on waterfronts and in the ocean.
The official Pokémon shop is inside the Sunshine City main building. Along with purchasable Pokemon goods such as plush dolls and other items, events are also held at the center.
The Otome Road is located right beside Sunshine City. And you can find there many products related to the anime universe.
Located about a fifteen minute walk from the east exit at Ikebukuro Station is a temple enshrining the god of safe birth and child raising. Located on the temple grounds is Kamikawaguchiya, a small candy store that has operated since 178Its exterior, which has never been changed and is said to be Japan’s oldest structure, became the model for Studio Ghibli’s animated film “Only Yesterday.”
