Harajuku

Did you know that in April 2021 ISI will open its 5th school at the Harajuku area in the heart of Tokyo. We introduce you the Harajuku neighborhood and what makes it a unique place to study.

Harajuku is famous for its colorful street art and young people’s fashion. Takeshita-dori is lined with quirky vintage clothing stores and cosplay stores, while the greenery of Omotesando is lined with traditional luxury boutiques. The surrounding lanes are lined with trendy bars, and dessert stores and street stalls selling crepes, donuts, bubble tea, and more. The Watari-um Museum of Contemporary Art is also hosting cutting-edge exhibitions.
Boutiques and cafes line the streets, and Yoyogi Park, one of the largest parks in Tokyo, is conveniently located next to Harajuku Station. Harajuku is a unique city in the heart of Tokyo with many things to see and do.

Explore Yoyogi Park

Yoyogi Park is the largest public park in Tokyo and a popular place to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. In spring, the cherry blossoms are in full bloom, making it the perfect place for cherry blossom viewing. Weekends are the most crowded, but you can also see street performers.

Meiji Shrine

Meiji Shrine is a Shinto shrine dedicated to the souls of the late Emperor Meiji and Empress Shōken. The shrine is surrounded by a lush forest composed of trees donated from all over Japan. At the shrine you can purchase an “ema”, a small wooden plaque, to write down your wishes or prayers which are then hung under a tree to be offered to the Shinto gods.

Takeshita Street

Takeshita Street is a busy pedestrian shopping street located right next to Harajuku Station and Kawaii Centrer. It’s a bit narrow and extremely busy some times, but worth checking out at least once during your stay. The street is lined with fashion boutiques and cafes offering plenty of things to see, shop, and eat.

Eat a delicious crepe

The French are also very happy. Harajuku is known for its crepes, and Takeshita-dori has an area dedicated to crepes. Takeshita-dori is lined with stores specializing in crepes, offering a wide variety of sweet and salty crepes.

LINE shop

If you are a fan of Japanese characters and also a fan of the LINE app, then the LINE Friends Store is for you. Here you can find a variety of character goods, including plush toys, figurines, clothes, stationery, and more. Even if you don’t buy anything, it’s a great place to window shop and check out interesting goods.

Go on a food tour of Harajuku

In Harajuku, you can find many restaurants and typical foods such as gyoza, ramen, yakiniku, and cat cafes.

As you can see Harajuku area is full of surprises and you’ll never get bored there. Choose ISI Harajuku campus and take advantage of our promotions to enjoy the area.

Thank you for reading. And I hope to write about my new adventure in the near future.
